After three years of construction, the Feather River temple is finished and ready to welcome visitors.
YUBA CITY, Calif. – Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from Redding to Roseville have eagerly awaited their new temple’s completion.
After three years of construction, the Feather River temple is finished and ready to welcome visitors.
This Saturday, the church kicks off a three-week open house for members and non-members.
Today Action News Now was invited to tour the temple along with other members of the media and local dignitaries.
Chico Mayor Andrew Coolidge was among the first to tour the newly completed Feather River temple.
As will be the case for thousands of expected visitors in the coming weeks, it was his first time to see inside a Mormon temple.
At more than 41-thousand square feet, the temple is adorned with features made with the highest level of craftsmanship comprised of mahogany paneling, ornate custom-made rugs, stained glass, and original paintings reflecting local scenery.
A common theme is almond blooms.
Church General Authority Mark Bragg says it’s more important to focus on what happens in the temple is more important.
Inside, church members perform sacred ordinances for the living ancestors– that’s the purpose of the baptismal font, where proxy baptisms will be performed daily.
There are also sealing rooms where weddings take place, sealing couples and their future families together for eternity.
Additionally, there is the celestial room. It is the highlight of the temple for every visitor.
If you want to see the temple before it’s dedicated, there are free public tours.
This Saturday, Aug. 19, you can head over from 3 a.m. to 9 p.m.
After that, stop by from Aug. 21 to Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
