Bonnie is expected to spread high winds and heavy rain across southern Nicaragua and northern Costa Rica on Friday night and into Saturday before emerging over the Eastern Pacific later Saturday.

Life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides are a growing concern through Saturday in parts of Nicaragua and Costa Rica, where 4 to 8 inches of rain is expected with localized amounts up to 12 inches.

Bonnie could then become a hurricane early next week as it moves west-northwestward near or off the Pacific coasts of El Salvador, Guatemala and southern Mexico.
