PENSACOLA, Fla. — Dozens of people gathered downtown for Pensacola’s March for Our Lives rally Saturday to protest against gun violence.

Organizers say this march was not aimed at taking guns away but was more focused on bringing the community together to call for a renewed push for gun control measures from lawmakers.

Some feel stricter gun laws aren’t the answer to solving this issue.

From the footsteps of Washington to the streets of Pensacola, hundreds of people gathered together across the nation to call for an end to gun violence.

“Too many people are dying from gun violence, keynote speaker Samantha Herring said. “That’s unacceptable and we’re better than that and we can do better than that.”

One-by-one Pensacola community members honored and remembered the 19 children and two teachers that were killed in Uvalde, Texas.

“I go to a school in an area where we experience a lot of lockdowns for threats of gun violence, Pensacola High School student Caroline Callahan said. “A lot of students are distraught and fear for their lives. It’s not always genuine threats, but the fear that we have from these is very real. It could happen to any of us, any minute, and I don’t think students should have to go to school in fear for their lives. It should be a safe place where three-hour lockdowns shouldn’t be an ordinary occurrence.”
