- An announcement has confirmed that the United States, Japan and Australia will hold joint naval drills in the South China Sea off the western Philippines this week
- The drills are meant to send a message to China, which has repeatedly harassed Philippine ships

MANILA, Philippines: An announcement has confirmed that the United States, Japan and Australia will hold joint naval drills in the South China Sea off the western Philippines this week.
The drills are meant to send a message to China, which has repeatedly harassed Philippine ships.
On August 5, Philippine ships were attacked by water cannons manned by Chinese naval vessels in international waters.
Local media reports that the upcoming naval exercises will include three aircraft and helicopter carriers undertaking joint operations. The US, Japanese and Australian navies will remain in close contact with the Philippine navy throughout the naval exercises.
