Satellite images show an increase in Russia’s military activity near the country’s border with Finland — which experts say could signal the Kremlin’s intention to beef up troops on NATO’s eastern flank.
The pictures, which are from Planet Labs PBC show an increased accommodation, aircraft deployment and infrastructure construction at four military bases near Finland.

“If the Russians follow their current plans, there can be tens of thousands new soldiers near the borders of Norway, Finland and the Baltic countries in the coming years,” Emil Kastehelmi, a Finnish military analyst, said.

A spokesperson for the Finnish defense forces, however, told Newsweek that they “won’t comment or speculate on operative observations.”
