(NewsNation) — For some Social Security recipients, May could bring three checks from the Social Security Administration.

Anyone who receives supplemental security income from the agency will receive two payments in May, in addition to their regular Social Security benefit check.

As of March of this year, the agency reported more than 7.4 million people — seniors, adults and children — receive SSI benefits. Recently, some individuals have reported receiving notices that they were “not receiving benefits.” However, the Social Security Administration has said that these notices were sent by mistake.Social Security calculator: Figure out your monthly benefits

Some recipients have started receiving bigger benefit checks due to the Social Security Fairness Act. Anyone who received a public sector pension in retirement that was restricted due to the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset had their benefits updated in April.

May Social Security payment schedule

If you want to monitor your payments in May, you can find the agency’s retirement benefit schedule online for 2025 and 2026. The SSA staggers its retirement payments by your birth date, which has the following breakdown:

Wednesday, May 14: Birth dates between the 1st and the 10th
Wednesday, May 21: Birth dates between the 11th and 20th
Wednesday, May 28: Birth dates between the 21st and 31st

If you receive SSI, you will receive two payments in May: One on Thursday, May 1, and another on Friday, May 30. The May 30 payment is technically for June, so you won’t receive another SSI payment until July 1.

If you are ever missing a payment, the SSA recommends first contacting your bank or financial institution to see if there is a delay. If there is no delay, you can call the agency at 1-800-772-1213 or contact your local Social Security office.
