UAW strike forces Stellantis, Ford to fire 1,250 workers

- After announcing the redundancies of 700 employees at two plants in Indiana the same day, Stellantis said it would also furlough 1,340 employees in three states because of the four-week-old strike
- Ford said it will furlough another 550 employees after the walkouts at its Kentucky Truck Plant and Chicago Assembly Plant
DEARBORN, Michigan: Chrysler-parent Stellantis and Ford Motor said on October 13 that due to the United Auto Workers (UAW) strike, they will furlough some 1,250 workers.
After announcing the redundancies of 700 employees at two plants in Indiana the same day, Stellantis said it would also furlough 1,340 employees in three states because of the four-week-old strike.
Ford said it will furlough another 550 employees after the walkouts at its Kentucky Truck Plant and Chicago Assembly Plant.
From this week, it would be laying off about 300 employees at an Ohio transmission plant, around 250 at four Michigan plants and along with 12 in Chicago, in added.
Since the strike began on September 15, Ford has laid off 2,480 workers.
Ford warned that a dozen facilities could be affected by the strike at its Kentucky Truck plant, its largest factory in the world.
Just over 34,000 UAW workers at the Detroit Three are on strike.
General Motors (GM) has also furloughed some 2,300 employees.
