WASHINGTON D.C.: The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screened 2.49 million air passengers on October 16, the highest daily number since February 2020.

However, this number is still lower that the 2.61 million screened on the same day in 2019.

In an earnings call last week, Delta Air Lines Chief Executive Ed Bastian said that demand remains very strong for air travel.

“After two years of delaying travel, it is clear that consumers are getting out and traveling the world. Business travel continues to recover, in line with our expectations, as bookings have improved after Labor Day and companies reconnect with their teams and their customers,” he said, as reported by Reuters.

According to industry trade group Airlines for America, since early October the number of flights by major carriers was still down by some 15 percent, while the number of passengers was 6 to 7 percent lower than pre-pandemic levels.
