GLENDALE, Arizona (Reuters) -President Donald Trump hailed slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk as a “martyr for American freedom” on Sunday and vowed at his memorial service to carry on his work, while again accusing what he called the “radical left” for Kirk’s murder. A person raises their arms while attending a memorial service for slain conservative commentator Charlie Kirk at State Farm Stadium, in Glendale, Arizona, U.S., September 21, 2025. “The violence comes largely from the left,” Trump said without citing any evidence, in remarks that downplayed political violence from the right and often turned starkly partisan in contrast to the more solemn tone that most other speakers adopted.U.S. President Donald Trump embraces Erika Kirk as she gestures, during a memorial service for her husband, slain conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, at State Farm Stadium in Arizona, U.S., September 21, 2025. Trump has been blaming the left for the deadly shooting before a suspect was even detained. His messaging reflected the dual nature of Kirk’s memorial, which had the feel of a religious revival mixed with a “Make America Great Again” rally.

The memorial, organized by Kirk’s conservative youth advocacy organization Turning Point USA, drew tens of thousands of mourners dressed in red, white and blue who filled State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.$1* Buys $100,000 Globe Life Insurance

Kirk’s friends and fellow conservatives praised him as an inspirational Christian who founded a political movement they promised to nurture.

His wife, Erika, who has taken the helm of Turning Point, delivered an emotional tribute to her late husband, looking up at the heavens and mouthing, “I love you,” before speaking about his devotion to Christianity, his family and his activism. “I want all of you to know, while Charlie died far too early, he was also ready to die,” she said. “He left this world without regrets. He did 100% of what he could every day.”

She also offered forgiveness to the 22-year-old man who has been charged with Kirk’s murder, citing the Bible’s account that Jesus Christ urged his followers to forgive his tormentors while on the cross.

“My husband Charlie wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life,” she said, before adding tearfully, as the crowd applauded solemnly.

Britain, Canada and Australia formally recognize a Palestinian state, deepening Israel’s isolation

Britain, Canada and Australia announced formal recognition of the state of Palestine on Sunday, in an attempt to pile pressure on Israel as it presses on with its campaign in Gaza despite international outrage.

The three – all strong allies of Israel for decades – also expressed deep frustration at the lack of progress towards a two-state solution.

Later on Sunday, Portugal announced that it too had formally recognized a Palestinian state, adding that a two-state solution was the “only path to a just and lasting peace.”

France and several other countries are expected to follow suit at the United Nations General Assembly this week, deepening Israel’s isolation and putting them at odds with Israel’s key partner, the United States.

In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that “there will be no Palestinian state.”

“I have a clear message to those leaders recognizing a Palestinian state after the horrific massacre of October 7th: you are giving a massive prize to terror,” Netanyahu said in a statement on Sunday.

“The response to the latest attempt to force a terror state upon us in the heart of our land will be given after my return from the United States. Wait for it,” Netanyahu added.

Israel’s President Isaac Herzog added to this criticism, saying the move will “not help one Palestinian, it won’t help free one hostage, and it will not help us reach any settlement between Israelis and Palestinians.”Expand article logo  Continue reading

“This is a sad day for those who seek true peace,” Herzog said in a post on X.

More than 140 other members of the UN already recognize Palestine, a number that has grown in the face of mounting alarm over Israel’s offensive in Gaza.

In the first of a series of apparently coordinated announcements Sunday, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on X his country “recognises the State of Palestine and offers our partnership in building the promise of a peaceful future for both the state of Palestine and the State of Israel.”

Netflix boss backs Meghan Markle after storm: ‘successful in every measure’

Story by Jack Royston

 • 7h •

4 min read

Meghan Markle has “remarkable influence” and the original Netflix biopic with Prince Harry was “successful in every measure,” according to the streaming giant’s chief executive.

Ted Sarandos heaped praise on the Duchess of Sussex despite a lukewarm response to her latest release, Season 2 of cooking show With Love, Meghan.

Why It Matters

His comments, on the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast, are the first he has made after Meghan and Prince Harry signed a hotly debated new Netflix deal.

They also follow With Love‘s Season 2’s failure to breach the top on Netflix globally, or in the U.S. or U.K.Meghan Markle smiles as she films the second season of her Netflix cooking show 'With Love, Meghan,' released in August 2025.

What To Know

Sarandos praised Meghan’s ability to sell out consumer goods featured in her shows, which is particularly relevant because With Love is paired with her online shop As Ever. The store sells produce and wine and Netflix is an equity partner, meaning it profits when she profits.

He said: “One thing we learned early with Meghan… she has remarkable influence—remarkable.

“So when we did the documentary on her and Harry, the trailer, when we ran the trailer announcing it, people… hundreds of people… broke down every frame of the trailer.”Expand article logo  Continue reading

“The $20 shoes that she got from … a village that was making these shoes sold out all over the world,” he said.

“And the $1,500 blanket that was on the chair sold out all over the world. She has incredible power and influence. So that for me, it’s like okay well how can we enable this to be a more holistic thing. So that’s what that relationship is about.”

The documentary Sarandos mentioned was the original biopic Harry and Meghan, which launched in two parts, spanning six episodes in December 2022.
